July is National Parks and Recreation Month!

Various studies have confirmed that community parks and recreation, green space, and time outdoors is critical for creating healthy, active, and sustainable communities.  Celebrate National Park & Recreation Month by visiting a park or recreation facility near you.  Get outside and enjoy the benefits these outdoor spaces provide.  Did you know?
  • 1 acre of trees absorbs the carbon dioxide produced by driving a car 11,000 miles!
  • Increased access to places used for physical activity (like parks and outdoor recreation facilities) leads to a 25% increase in people exercising 3 or more days a week.
  • In Macon, GA, a revitalized park that included new programming and beautification efforts reduced crime and violence by 50%.
  • 90% of residents in New York City live within a quarter mile of a park, making outdoor activity extremely convenient!  That's a lot of parks!
